The Cessna Citation XL is a mid-sized business jet built in America. First flight was Feb 1996. It has a 2000+ mile (3,900 Km) range, and cruises quietly at Mach 0.73 at 45,000ft.
No two XL’s are exactly alike. Given its luxury status, Cessna allows and encourages customization, and over the years it has evolved into a number of models: from the original Excel, XL, XLS, XLS+ to the new XLSgen2.
The AirSim3D C-560XL is built around the XL - XLS models which were introduced in Feb 2004, and 2008 respectively, so it has upgraded engines and some glass instruments.
AirSim3D chose the “older” models to give simmers the joy of flying an aircraft with a mix of glass and switches. It is a matter of ownership pride for real jet owners to “bling” their jets, and the AirSim3D C-560XL does no less. Expect to see many original switches and dials, but also to find upgraded glass instruments for a hassle-free, but truly immersive, 95% replicated, accurate flight experience – just like the real jet.
As a part of the AirSim3D C-560XL “upgrades”, and guided by what we saw in the real jet we often visited for reference at Boeing airfield, Washington, we removed the FMC and upgraded it with a custom G1000 that is completely integrated into the C-560XL’s custom/authentic Auto Pilot.
Expect to find yourself using the G1000 to simply create/upload your flight plans with little fuss, to then be able to quickly get to the part the jet was built for – flying. Real pilots say they use the Jets custom AP 99% of the time after the Flight Plan is entered. (and our Beta testers reported that behavior too).
This jet was subjected to months-long Beta testing, and in fact, its release was delayed precisely because we did not want paying customers to act as beta testers! Now you get a jet that just works, and is virtually bug free! Get flying from day 1, and expect to fly many enjoyable, hassle-free hours in the AirSim3D C-560XL.
