KTEX- Telluride Airport sits atop a plateau at an elevation of 9070 feet, nestled between the San Miguel River to the south, sitting over 1,000 feet below, and the snowcapped mountains to the north, rising over 14,000 feet. After touching down the runway, pilots must contend with a nearly 40-foot change in elevation from the center of the runway to the end of 27.
