José María Córdova International Airport (IATA: MDE, ICAO: SKRG) is located in the city of Rionegro, about 20 km (12 mi) southeast of Medellín. It is Colombia’s second most important airport after El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá, and the main air gateway for the Medellín Metropolitan Area. Recognized as the principal airport in the Antioquia region, it stands out for its modern infrastructure and constant technological development.
Serving as the main hub for Viva Colombia, SKRG also handles frequent operations from Avianca and LATAM Colombia, connecting Medellín to major destinations across the Americas and Europe. International routes include the United States, Panama, Mexico, Peru, Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, and Spain, while domestic connections cover key Colombian cities such as Bogotá, Cali, Cartagena, Barranquilla, Santa Marta, and San Andrés Island. Additionally, it is a vital cargo hub, exporting flowers and other regional products to North America and Europe.
Recent expansions and modernizations have turned José María Córdova into one of the most advanced and efficient airports in Colombia.
